Use NADAC Prices in Claude and ChatGPT

Connect your NADAC Pricing account to the Claude or ChatGPT desktop app through our MCP server, then ask about drug acquisition costs, price history and cheaper equivalents in plain English. It's read-only and works on the Free plan.

Your connector URL

Both apps ask for this address when you add the connector.

https://nadacpricing.com/api/mcp

You'll also need a NADAC Pricing account. Create one free if you don't have one.

Claude Desktop

Works on every Claude plan. The Free Claude plan allows one custom connector. On Claude Team or Enterprise, an Owner adds the connector for the organization first, and then you click Connect in step 4.

  1. Open Claude Desktop and go to Customize → Connectors.
  2. Click Add custom connector.
  3. Name it NADAC Pricing and paste the connector URL. If Claude asks how to sign in, choose Sign in now and Use Claude's published identity. Click Add.
  4. Click Connect. Your browser opens NADAC Pricing: sign in, check the screen says Claude published by claude.ai, and click Allow.
  5. In a chat, click + → Connectors and make sure NADAC Pricing is on. The first time Claude uses it, choose Allow once or Always allow.

ChatGPT

Needs a ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise or Edu plan. OpenAI only lets you add custom connectors on the web, so do this one-time setup at chatgpt.com. On Business, Enterprise or Edu, your workspace admin may need to enable developer mode first.

  1. At chatgpt.com, open Settings → Security and login and turn on Developer mode.
  2. Go to chatgpt.com/plugins and click +.
  3. Name it NADAC Pricing, paste the connector URL as the MCP server URL, choose OAuth for authentication, and create it.
  4. Sign in to NADAC Pricing in the window that opens, check the screen names ChatGPT, and click Allow.
  5. Start a new chat, click + → Developer mode and select NADAC Pricing. ChatGPT works best when you name it, for example "Using NADAC Pricing, ...".

Try asking

  • “What is the cheapest metformin 500 mg tablet on NADAC right now?”
  • “Show the NADAC price history for Eliquis 5 mg over the past year.”
  • “Find cheaper equivalents to Lipitor 40 mg (NDC 00071015723).”
  • “Which manufacturers make atorvastatin, and how do their prices compare?”
  • “How have GLP-1 receptor agonist prices trended this year?”

Plans and limits

Every plan gets every tool. Plans differ only in how many lookups (tool calls) the assistant can make; one question often uses a few.

Free

20 per day

Resets at midnight UTC

Premium

60 per minute

No daily cap. See pricing

Privacy and disconnecting

The connector is read-only. It can look up NADAC data for you, but it can't change your account, see billing details or read your watchlist. Disconnect any time under Settings → Connected AI Apps, and remove it from Claude (Customize → Connectors) or ChatGPT (chatgpt.com/plugins).

Frequently asked questions

What is NADAC?

The National Average Drug Acquisition Cost is a weekly CMS survey of what U.S. retail pharmacies pay to acquire a drug, per unit (tablet, mL or gram). It is not the retail or cash price a patient pays.

The assistant says I reached a daily limit.

Free accounts include 20 tool calls per day, and one question can use several. The limit resets at midnight UTC. Premium raises it to 60 per minute.

The assistant answers without using NADAC Pricing.

Check the connector is turned on for that chat (Claude: + then Connectors; ChatGPT: + then Developer mode), and mention it in your question, for example "Using NADAC Pricing, ...".

Sign-in fails or says the app can’t be connected.

Make sure the server URL is copied exactly as shown above, with nothing added. Then remove the connector in Claude or ChatGPT and add it again.

Do I need an API key?

No. Claude and ChatGPT sign in to your NADAC Pricing account directly; you never copy a key.

What does NADAC Pricing see from my chats?

Only the lookups the assistant sends us, such as a drug name or NDC. We never receive your conversation.
